Through the Green
Through the Green refers to the whole area of the course, but not the putting green or teeing area of the hole being played, or any hazards on the course. The ball must always be played as it lies, unless specified otherwise by the Rules of Golf.
A player may have the line of play indicated to him, but only before the stroke is made. For example, when executing a blind shot over a hill the direction of the hole may be indicated to the player by someone standing in position on the crest of the hill. As long as that person moves before the stroke is played no penalty is incurred.
It is against the rules to artificially or forcefully improve the ball position, lie, stance, area of swing or line of play.
Except in a hazard, loose impediments interfering with the lie of the ball or the players’ stance, may be removed. However, if the ball is moved as a result of removing the loose impediment a penalty stroke is incurred and the ball must be replaced.
Through the green, sand and soil are not loose impediments and cannot be removed.
If a player considers that a ball lying on the course might give assistance to any other player then he may lift the ball, if it his ball, or have any other ball lifted. Similarly, if a player considers that another players ball might interfere with his play he can request to have the offending ball lifted.
