Open Championship Results & Statistics
The following tables give a listing of all Open Championship Results held from 1860 until the present day, a listing of all nationalities that have won the open, multiple winners and the venues that have held The Open since the first tournament.
The Old Course, St. Andrews, considered by many to be the home of golf, is the most prominent venue. Lying second is Prestwick, which held many of the early Open Championships, but none since 1925.
The early winners of The Open, quite understandably, originated from the home shores of Great Britain & Ireland. However, since the first American victory in the early twenties the tide has noticably turned with International golfers winning far more titles than the home professionals.
Paul Lawrie, the winner in 1999, at Carnoustie, triumphed after a play-off with Jean Van de Velde, of France, and Justin Leonard of the United States. This was the start of a lean spell for the British golfers until Padraig Harrington clinched his first Open Championship at Carnoustie in 2007.
