Located 21 miles south of Mombasa, Diani Beach is perhaps the most developed beach on the south coast of Kenya with hotels, self-catering resorts, banks, curio shops, supermarkets and bars along a coastal strip. Here you'll find several miles of fine white beaches, palm trees and coral reefs. The water is clean and the gently sloping shore, extending to the coral reef, makes it safe for swimming. As well as the golf resort at Leisure Lodge, water sports including water-skiing, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, glass-bottomed boat trips over the coral reefs and sailing are readily available. The varied nightlife includes live music and shows in most of the resort hotels. Several European and Asian restaurants are located along the coast road as well as numerous beach bars serving snacks and grilled fish. As an alternative to golf, guided walks are available through the Jadini Forest, famous for its colobus monkeys, big-game fishing trips may be booked and there is a bird watching area located close by at the Tiwi River. Other excursions include bush tours, folk dancing and handicraft displays, dhow cruise with lunch and, with overnight stays, safari visits to the Tsavo East National Park or Amboseli National Parks.
